Summer Series Part 14: Karysun - Interceptor

So it's just about the end of summer, so I'll be wrapping up my summer heavy series in the next few posts.
I haven't posted a lot the last week because I've been busy as hell. I saw Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell, Motorhead, and Testament, AND went to the Renaissance Faire all in one week, so I'm officially ready to say that summer can end.
Today I'm giving a listen to Karysun's record "Interceptor." Karysun is from France, who are apparently good at the heavy shit. They also may or may not be named after a One Eyed God Prophecy song, which may or may not be awesome. They seem to have a fairly rotating lineup, but feature members of kick ass hardcore band Amanda Woodward. Karysun have the whole "heavy but still kind of catchy" thing down, a la Torche or Fu Manchu, but a little more screamy and churning than either of those bands. Perhaps you should imagine them as a cross between Torche and Black Cobra, with some fairly subtle European hardcore influences thrown in for good measure.
The problem I have with Karysun is that they sometimes have REAL shaky transitions. They'll change tempo and mood with very little to kind of justify why the tempo and mood changed. I always tend to think that transitions between different parts can really make or break a song, and every once and a while Karynun's transitions feel kind of hollow to me.
Having said that, the songs on this record are pretty catchy, short, and punchy, and they definitely know how to pile riffs on top of each other. They're not the best band of this genre I've ever heard, but if you're into any of the above mentioned bands, you like European hardcore, stoner riffage, or just general heavy rock you could do a lot worse than this record.
Besides, any band that spells their name with an inverted cross can't be all bad, right?
Doin' it.
Resources like the one you mentioned here will be very useful to me! I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.
