Centurions Ghost - Blessed and Cursed in Equal Measure; Wounded Kings - The Shadow Over Atlantis

Two riffy ones today.
First up is the new one from the U.K.'s Centurions Ghost, called "Blessed and Cursed in Equal Measure."
I loved their last record and this one straight up smokes that one. This is, quite simply, the best riffy stuff I've heard in a while.
It kind of fits in pretty well with a lot of those bands that combine southern-style riff rock with hardcore, like Kylesa, Baroness, High on Fire, and Torche, but is, in my personal opinion, at the top of that heap by a longshot.
Centurions Ghost is seriously one of the most no-nonsense bands I've ever heard in my life. The songs are way shorter than songs by bands like this usually are, and there's almost no dead space anywhere in them. It's just crushing riff piled on top of crushing riff with some pretty easy to get behind, angry vocals topping everything off. This is highly recommended if you like any of the above bands.

Next up is Wounded Kings's album "The Shadow Over Atlantis."
A friend turned me on to this, telling me he couldn't stop listening to it. I can see why. It totally rules. Way doomier than Centurions Ghost, but also way more stoner.
Wounded Kings might do the whole tripped-out doom thing better than almost anyone I've ever heard. I would say they kind of sound like what I wanted Om to sound like, but, you know, with guitars. Kind of mumbled singing for vocals, lethargic-in-a-good-way drumming, and real atmospheric and sparse riffs driving the whole thing. If you like doomy stuff or want something to throw on while you space out, Wounded Kings should be right up your alley.
