I'm Thankful for Instrumetal Part IV: Cloudkicker - Portmanteau

Cloudkicker makes the rest of us look like a bunch of lazy shlubs.
Seriously.
If you haven't heard Cloudkicker, it's one dude, programming drums, then rocking out totally mind-blowingly awesome riffs over said programmed drums. I imagine it takes a fair amount of brains, time, effort, and skill to pull the whole thing off, because, frankly, the records are fantastic.
I suppose I would compare Cloudkicker to something like Helmet or Unsane, but that's a really inapt, lazy comparison. In actuality, Cloudkicker is a one-man genre.
Cloudkicker's newest EP, "Portmanteau," represents his most varied work, in a good way. Cloudkicker traditionally relies on sort of angular, crunchy riffs mixed with syncopated drumming, and Portmanteau has plenty of that trademark sound, but the record also features both ragingly fast parts and much lighter and more melodic parts than Cloudkicker usually kicks out, all in just four songs and 20 minutes.
On top of that, like a bunch of the records I've posted recently, Cloudkicker's shit is all free on his webpage. You should be downloading all three of his albums right now, if you haven't already. It's really some of the best stuff out there right now.
A song off Cloudkicker's first album.
Resources like the one you mentioned here will be very useful to me! I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.
