Braveyoung - Bloom

Despite not posting here for over two weeks, I've got plenty to write about. I've heard a bunch of good music, but just haven't been able to put words to paper about them. It just all comes out mush, for some reason, when I go to write.
Having said that, I'm having to push myself to write this fucking Braveyoung review, cause this shit is golden.
Braveyoung used to be called Giant. I wasn't a big fan of Giant. Nothing necessarily wrong with them, I just wasn't that into it. It was very middling sludge stuff to me. Nothing particularly grabbing, or whatever.
A little while ago Giant changed their name to Braveyoung (I'm assuming because there are probably 8 billion bands named "Giant"). According to their MySpace page, they're still the exact same band, just with a different name.
Bullshit.
Total Bullshit.
Cause Giant was a middling Sludge band, but Braveyoung is a fucking revelation.
Braveyoung kind of sound like what would happen if you took Godspeed You! Black Emperor, lost the string section, cranked up the rock knob to 11 and broke it off. It's some real epic, trudging, melancholic, climactic music, which never gets so overblown that it loses it's sense of urgency.
Bloom is a great example of how a record can be heavy and intense without any of the normal trappings of heavy music. They don't ever bust into a doom riff, they don't ever start screaming or growling, they don't ever start rocking the double bass, they just play like they fucking mean it and the whole thing comes off as real weighty.
This EP is just two songs which clock in at 28 minutes or so, but it's a dense fucking 28 minutes. If Braveyoung can keep this kind of thing up for a full length I promise you I'll be first in line to pick it up. Do yourself a favor and head over to their website right now to check this out, if you haven't heard them yet.

So once again- sorry for the lack of content. My brain apparently goes to shit in the summer, despite still having lots of work to do, but I've got plenty to review so hopefully I can get stuff up here soon.
Braveyoung is one of my favorite band. I heard this music before but I couldn't find the video. Thanks for this.
