Black Sleep of Kali - S/T

I'm still reeling from the agony of hearing that fucking Chickenfoot song for the first time. It's like getting over the flu. I also don't have internet yet after moving, despite AT&T telling me I would by last Monday, so I'm doing swell.

Either way, today, I'm giving you a heads up on a pretty rocking new band, Black Sleep of Kali. Fucking AWESOME band name. Really. Like, top ten ever.

BSOK are a stoner kind of band from Denver and this is their first release, a sort of real good demo/EP sort of thing that's very, very worth checking out, especially since it's free (more on that later).

They kind of rock a sweet Torche-esque thing with the heavy but catchy melodic shit. Like most bands like this that are good, they bring in an influence from 90s heavier hardcore shit like His Hero is Gone as well (I just noticed one of the dudes in the band is rocking an HHIG shirt on their MySpace page. Neat). Ryan and I once had a conversation about how a lot of the best metal was played by hardcore kids because they were sort of better able to get around some of the stale conventions of metal and just go for the jugular.

That conversation, I should point out, took place in the middle of the 90s. Of course, since then there's been a veritable deluge of shitty moshcore, metalcore, deathcore, and whatever else you want to call it which totally proved us way, way fucking wrong.

I mean, seriously. How fucking wrong do bands like The Devil Wears Prada prove us?

Thankfully, bands like BSOK have gone ahead and started reworking hardcore back into metal in ways I approve of, that don't involve Jesus or e-chug breakdowns.

So head over to BSOK's MySpace page and you can check out their sweet, sweet rock and find a link to download the EP.
